SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • The sunglasses cost €70.

  • The exchange rate is €1=£0.895.

  • Emad says, the sunglasses cost less than £60.

TO SHOW

Using a suitable approximation, show that Emad is wrong.

EVALUATION

Here it is given that the sunglasses cost €70.

The exchange rate is €1 = £0.895.

So the cost of the sunglasses

= € 70

= £ ( 70 × 0.895 )

= £ 62.65

Now Emad says, the sunglasses cost less than £60.

 \sf{Since \:  \:  \:  \: 62.65 > 60}

So the above approximation shows that Emad is wrong.
