The surface area of mitochondria 'X'and 'Y' are 200nm² and 250nm² respectively . Still both produce equal number of ATP. Why?​

Answer: Inspite of different surface areas mitochondria 'X' and 'Y' produce equal number of ATP.

Explanation: A mitochondria consists of the outer porous layer and the inner layer. The size of mitochondria depends on its outer layer. So, It might be  that the size of the inner walls of the mitochondria are of same length. As, the amount of ATP production only depends on the inner layer. The surface area of mitochondria 'Y' is larger than surface area of mitochondria 'X' but the size of the inner walls are same, hence they produce equal number of ATP.

*NOTE: The values of mitochondria 'X' and 'Y' are just given to confuse you..
