Answer:

surface area of a sphere of radius r = 4 * pi * r^2 = 576 * pi in this question

r = sqrt(576/4) = 12 cm. Hence, volume of the large sphere = 4/3 * pi * r^3

= 4/3 * pi * 12^3 cm^3. Volume of the small sphere each = 4/3 * pi * (1/2)^3 cm^3

Therefore the number of small spheres =

4/3 * pi * 12^3 cm^3 / 4/3 * pi * (1/2)^3 cm^3 = 24^3.
