The surface area on earth for water percolation is drastically reduced because now a days the earth layer is covering with the cement roads rocks etc and due to deforestation, the soil erosion too takes place. so, the water doesnt sinks into the ground such that the underground water will be reduced. hence, the surface area on earth for water percolation is drastically reduced
