The surface of gold remains shiny forever but the surface of metals like iron and copper tarnishe in the long run.why?

Gold - is classified as a noble metal. What it means is that gold is very unreactive. It was found in elemental form since ancient time. It doesn’t bond with anything easily. It keeps it’s metallic shininess for a very long time, although “forever” is quite a stretch.  Whereas metals like iron and copper are reactive and can form iron oxide or copper oxide easily.
