H2 is the naturally occurring stable form of hydrogen. It is a molecule consisting of 2 atoms of elemental hydrogen. Elemental hydrogen consists of one proton in its nucleus and one electron. Atomic hydrogen is unstable because its lone electron is unpaired. When it bonds with another hydrogen atom the orbitals merge and the electron pair (one from each atom) now orbit both nuclei. The molecule is now in a stable low energy state configuration.

Helium (He) is a monatomic noble gas. It has 2 protons and 2 neutrons in its nucleus. There is a pair of electrons in its 1s orbital. It is monatomic because everything is electrically balanced. It is also inert because there are no unpaired electrons for anything to bond with.
