The poet highlights the theme of empowerment of women in the poem, 'I Believe'. She says that the abilities and desires of women, specially the tribal women in North East states of India, have been smothered by outdated social norms and banal cultural traditions. They strongly wish to liberate themselves from these bondages and soar into the greater heights of human achievements. The poet believes that with an appropriate attitude, competence and diligence we can achieve apparently unattainable objectives and make the world a better place to live in. She says, 'I can pierce the heavens ..... I can soar to the heights .... feel the stars.'
