Consumption in litres :- 0-20, 20-40, 40-60, 60-80,

No of families :- 4, 5, 12, 2, 2 .

Solution :-

From image we can see that,

→ sum of Frequency = 25

→ sum of Fi * Xi = 1110

Now, we know that,

→ Mean using Direct Method = ( ⅀ FiXi ) / (⅀ Fi)

Therefore,

→ Mean = (1110/25)

→ Mean = 44.4 (Ans.)

Hence, Required Mean is 44.4.
