Given : The table showing the profit from a school book fair based on the number of books sold.

Books   Profit $

100         50

250       275

300        350

350        425

To Find :  rate of change for the function represented in the table

Solution:

Books   Profit $

100         50

250       275

300        350

350        425

rate of change for the function represented in the table

=  ( 275 - 50)/(250 - 100)

= 225/ 150

= 3/2

= 1.5 $ per book

(350 - 275)/(300 - 250)

= 75/50

= 3/2

=  1.5 $ per book

(425 - 350)/(350 - 300)

= 75/50

= 3/2

=  1.5 $ per book

rate of change for the function represented in the table  1.5 $ per book
