1. The Taj Mahal is situated at Agra. It was built by Shahjahan, grandson of Akbar the Great. Agra happened to be the capital of the Mughal kingdom since Akbar’s rule. Shahjahan was fond of art and many notable sculptures were made during his rule.
2. It was said that he used to love his wife Mumtaj very much and he built taj mahal in the memory of his late wife. It was commissioned by him at a place far from the chaos of the city and the land required to build this masterpiece was found near the banks of Yamuna River.
