The cyclones provide the extent of the precipitation on the Coromandel Coast. Winter rains in Tamil Nadu are produced by north-east winds which are also perceived as north-east monsoons. The Tami Nadu coast undergoes winter rainfall because of the passage of low-pressure situations to the Bay of Bengal. Tamil Nadu prevails on the windward side and hence receives more rainfall during the winter period.
