• The tense of direct speech does not change in indirect speech if it is in the future or present tense.
• Simple past changes to past perfect tense.
• No conjugation is used if a sentence starts with a question word like where, why or what.
• In conversion can become could and may become might.
• The second person of the direct speech changes according to the object of the reporting speech.
• The third person does not change.
