“The teacher ordered the students to stand up on the bench” is an indirect speech of the given sentence.

EXPLANATION:

Direct speech comprises a sentence in two parts. One is the reporting part that connects the subject with a reporting verb which determines the tense of the sentence; the other is narration in the first person which is within the quotation marks.

Indirect speech on the other hand has only one part. It reports the speech within the inverted commas.

In the sentence- The teacher said to the students, "Stand up on the bench”, the teacher is ordering the students so in the indirect speech the reported verb becomes ordered in place of said.
