The temperature be 6 degree Celsius below zero at time 10 pm.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

The temperature at 1 p.m. was 10 degree Celsius above zero.

It decreases at the rate of 2 degree Celsius per hour until 10 p.m.

To Find:

Time  at which the temperature be 6 degree Celsius below zero.

Solution:

As given, the temperature at 1 p.m. was 10 degree Celsius above zero.

The temperature at 1 p.m = 10°C

As given,it decreases at the rate of 2 degree Celsius per hour until 10 p.m.

The temperature decreases by 2°C in 1 hour.

Thus, the temperature decreases by 1°C in \frac{1}{2} hour.

Temperature 10°C above zero - Temperature 8°C below zero

= 10 - (- 8) = 10 + 8 = 18\°C

The temperature decreases by 18°C in \frac{1}{2} \times 18= 9\ hours.

Thus, from 10°C above zero to 8°C below zero it takes 9 hours

Total time = 1 p.m.  + 9 hours

= 10 pm

Thus, the temperature be 6 degree Celsius below zero at time 10 pm.
