The temperature at the poles does not rise above 10 degree Celsius. Why?

because the rays of the sun does not fall direct ly in the poles to that of the equator

Because of the angle between the earth's rotational axis and the sun,even at the height of summer ,the sun shines at an oblique angle at the poles ,never getting directly overhead,which means that it is filtered through more of the atmosphere,reducing its intensity and thus it warming effects.The net result is that the temperature of the poles seldom rises much above freezing ..
