Root means square velocity =3RTM−−−−√

It means it is directly proportional to temperature and inversely proportional to molar mass

Root means square velocity of O2=3RTM(molarmassofO2)−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−√

RMSO2=3RTmolarmassofO2−−−−−−−−−−−−−−√---------(1)

RMS neon =3RTmolarmassofneon−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−√

T for neon = 300 K

Mass of neon = 20.1797 g/mol

RMS neon=3×300×R20.1797−−−−−−−−√---------(2)

It is given that, RMSO2=RMSneon

So from (1) and (2)

3RTmolarmassofO2−−−−−−−−−−−−−−√=3×300×R20.1797−−−−−−−−√

squaring on both sides

3RT32=90020.17

T=900×3220.17×3

=475.9K

Temperature at which r.m.s speed of O2 is equal to that of neon at 300 K is 475.9 K
