The temperature of 5 moles of a gas which was held at
constant volume was changed from 100º to 120ºC. The
change in the internal energy of the gas was found to be 80
joule, the total heat capacity of the gas at constant volume
will be equal to
(a) 8 joule per K (b) 0.8 joule per K

Answer:

The correct answer is (c)4.0 joule per K

Explanation:

number of mole of gas , n = 5

initial temperature, Ti = 100°C

final temperature , Tf = 120°C

the change in internal energy , ∆U= 80J

we know, change in internal energy = heat at constant volume.

= nCvdT

here, Cv is molar specific heat capacity , dT is Temperature change.

so, 80 = 5 × Cv × (120- 100)

Cv = 80/100 = 4/5 J/K/mol

so, total heat capacity = number of mole × molar heat capacity

= 5 × 4/5 = 4 J/k
