Given:

Increase in temperature ΔT = 10°C

Percentage increase in length =1%

To find:

What is the percentage change in volume of the body of the same material for 10° C increase in temperature?

Solution:

Let the co-efficient of linear expansion=α

Then the co-efficient of volume expansion will be = 3α

The percentage change in length = αΔT×100 = 1%

Therefore, the percentage change in volume = 3αΔT×100 = 3×1% = 3%

Therefore the percentage change in volume of the body of the same material for 10° C increase in temperature will be 3%.
