Cytokinins are hormones that are specific to plants. They play a critical role during the life cycle of a cell. They influence many development  process. Their regulatory function  is not understood. This is due to the fact that they lack signaling and biosynthetic mutants.  None of these. The term cytokinin was coined by Skoog and Miller in the 1950s.  They had an ability to induce plant cell division. It was after their discovery that Skoog and Miller coined the term 'auxin–cytokinin'
