The international Union of Conservation of Nature came up with the concept of sustainability first in 1980. After which these three major environmental NGOs WWF, ICUN and UNEP came together and began promoting sustainable development not only as a mere concept but in an intent to conserve the Earth's Natural Resources. But sustainable development was still on a very basic level. Until the white paper publication under the name of "Our Common Future" was introduced in the report of Brundtland Commission. This set the basis for the definition that is widely used today. Which not only talks about present needs but also focuses on future needs being fulfilled by natural resources.
