Preamble to the Constitution of India is basically the declaration of our social, economic, religious and legal aspirations.

Before the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution the Preamble began thus: “WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a Sovereign, Democratic Republic”.

By the 42nd Amendment in the year 1976, the words “Sovereign Democratic Republic” were replaced by “Sovereign Socialistic Secular Democratic Republic”
