Our textile industry needs no inputs which have to be imported. At one time it was a major contributor to our economy apart from agriculture but in the British Raj they took our cotton to Britain and ships returned with cloth to be sold here. Against this exploitation Gandhiji initiated the Swadeshi movement wherein people burnt imported cloth.
