Let the length and breadth of a rectangle be l and b respectively. The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum of the length of all its edges. Thus we can say that,

P = l + b + l + b

P = 2l + 2b → (1)

P = 2(l + b)

Well, how to find the length of the rectangle if perimeter and breadth are given?

From the equation (1),

2l = P - 2b

l = (P - 2b) / 2

Here the field is rectangular in shape, and we are given,

P = 128 m

b = 24 m

[Perimeter can't be less than length or breadth, thus 1.28m perimeter and 24m breadth are not possible. Thus the perimeter is taken as 128m.]

Then the length will be,

l = (128 - 2 × 24) / 2

l = (128 - 48) / 2

l = 80 / 2

l = 40 m

Hence the length of the rectangular field is 40 m.
