The three phases of the author's relation with his grandmother are as follows:-

✍In the first phase both lived in the village and shared a great bond. She used to sing her morning prayers while the author listened to it. She got him ready for school and they both left together as the school was attached to the temple and while the author studied, grandmother lived in the temple and also fed the village dogs pieces of chapati.

✍The second phase saw a consequent change in their relationship. Both moved to city and author went to school by bus and hence grandmother could not accompany him and moreover there were no village dogs. She did not like what was taught to him in school and felt helpless. They saw less of each other.

✍In the third phase, the author left abroad for higher education and grandmother was left alone. She sat by the spinning wheel, fed the sparrows which was her happiest moment and chanted prayers. In this phase their was a long distance relationship between the two.

So we can observe that how with increasing years there was a surprising change in their relationship.
