Amobile thief succumbed to his injuries a few hours after being beaten by a mob in Outer Delhi's Narela area for trying to snatch a woman’s phone.
The thief, who along with three others tried to snatch the woman’s mobile phone while she was standing outside her home, was caught by her.
According to a senior police officer, "The incident happened in the wee hours of July 13 when four persons on a scooty came and one of them tried to snatch her mobile phone. When she tried to catch him, two of his associates also came and started beating her."
The woman in her complaint said that when she raised an alarm, one of the accused whipped out a knife and tried to stab her. In the meantime, residents of the area gathered and managed to get hold of two of the men.
While one of them managed to escape, other one, later identified as Ramesh, was allegedly beaten by the public and later he succumbed to his injuries.
Following which, police have registered a cross FIR. One FIR has been registered against the thief while the second FIR has been filed against the mob who attacked the thief.
During the incident, the woman allegedly tried to stop the mob from beating up Ramesh.
A resident of the area made a call to the Police Control Room, but by the time, the Narela Police reached the spot, the PCR staff took the thief to the Police Station.
The accused Ramesh, was arrested and a knife was also recovered from his possession. MN Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) said, "We registered a case under IPC sections 394, 397 and 34.”
Tiwari added, "During medical examination of Ramesh, doctor noticed multiple bruises. Based on the injuries found on Ramesh, a case under IPC Sections 308 and 34 was also registered at the Mangolpuri Police Station,"
The senior officer said that he has ordered ACP/Vigilance of Outer district to enquire into the matter and submit a report in this regard.
