The answer is (a) Biogenesis.

Theory of biogenesis tells that living organisms can arise from living organisms only.

Living organisms cannot be generated spontaneously.

This hypothesis proposed by scientists help to explain the concept of  “animalcules".

These animalcules were observed by Anton von Leeuwenhoek and Louis Pasteur. Later experiments of some scientists had supported the hypothesis.

For example, John Needham claimed that 'vital life is needed for the spontaneous generation of microbes'.

He added the reason why no living organisms can emerge from heated and sealed solutions in containers.

Because the “vital life" would be destroyed by heat and no new “vital life" was supplied to the solutions.
