Given : The third term of an arithmetic sequence is 10

To Find : sum of its first 5 terms

Solution:

Assume that first five terms are

a - 2d , a - d , a  , a + d , a + 2d

where a -2d is first term

d is common difference

a is 3rd term = 10

Sum of  first 5 terms = a - 2d + a - d + a + a + d + a + 2d

= 5a

= 5(10)

= 50

Hence sum of its first 5 terms = 50
