Given: The three imaginary elements X, Y and Z represent Dobereiner’s triad. The atomic mass of element X is 14 and that of element Y is 46.

To find: We have to find the atomic mass of element Z.

Solution:

Elements of Dobereiner's triad show similar properties. For example N, O and F are Dobereiner's triad.

According to Dobereiner's triad, the average of the atomic mass of elements X and Z will be equal to the atomic mass of element Y.

\dfrac{X+Z}{2}=Y

The atomic mass of X is 14.

The atomic mass of Y is 46.

So, the atomic mass of Z will be-

46 =  \frac{14 + Z}{2}  \\ 92 = 14 + Z \\ Z = 78

The atomic mass of Z is 78.
