The tiger is typically sighted as the most fearsome predator. Any act of kindness or goodwill is an impossibility from a tiger. However, I saw the kind side of a tiger once. I could not believe what I saw.
I along with my friends had gone to a sanctuary for photography safari. Expert safari guides and security professionals were with us in our jeep to guide us and keep us safe.
We clicked some breathtaking photographs of animals in their natural habitats. All of us were so excited to see wild animals. We saw herds of deer, elephants, groups of monkeys, and many rare species of birds.
As we were about to return, we got an opportunity to see one of the rarest happenings; we saw a tigress escorting a fawn. It appeared as if the tigress was treating the fawn as her cub. A leopard came to kill the fawn, but the tigress chased it away.
We felt so flabbergasted at the phenomenon. We also clicked some photographs of the tigress licking the fawn like its mother.
Tiger, the most Fearsome Predator
Tigers are considered to be the most powerful species in the whole animal kingdom. Tiger is an apex predator that mostly lives in forests and grasslands. They weigh as much as 300 kilograms and can reach a length of 3.3 meters. Some of the sub-species of tiger includes: Siberian tigers, Sumatran tigers, Royal Bengal tigers, South China tigers, Malayan tigers and Indochinese tigers.
At earlier times, tigers used to inhabit in almost whole of the Asian sub-continent ranging from Eastern Turkey to the Caspian Sea, Southern Tibetan plateau to the Sea of Okhotsk. In India, tigers are mostly found in the foothills of the Himalayas, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, etc. But unfortunately, the wide range of tiger has been now limited to a few major habitats.
Tigers generally represent the symbol of power and energy. They also attain a leadership quality because of their persistency and determination. As they are most powerful animal, they are capable of taking on their prey in a single attempt. They have broad shoulders and forelimbs which helps them to grab the prey and hold onto it with their long claws and broad forepaws. You would find it interesting to know that the color of the coat of the tigers varies depending on the subspecies. That means that no tiger has black stripes that resemble other counterparts.
But sadly, the advent of human into the animal world has given rise to the extinction of the tiger species. Due to extreme hunting and poaching, tiger has become an endangered species now and to prevent this, we should go hand in hand to save tigers from the poachers and keep them to shine as the king of the jungle.
Moral: Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.
