The time interval between a lightning flash and the first sound of thunder was found to be 5s. If the speed of sound in air is 330 m/s , find the distance of the flash from the observer.

given,
speed = 330 m/s
time = 5 sec
therefore distance,
speed = distance/time
distance = speed * time
distance = 330 * 5
distance = 1650 m

The speed of light is much more compared to speed of sound.
So the time interval between a lightning flash and the  first sound of thunder is the time required by sound to reach the observer.

Speed of sound = 330 m/s
time = 5s
distance = 330*5 = 1650 m
