because they was strong and their tips not contain any elements to grow

the roots of sugarcane only contain elements for growing not the tips

when we remove the tip of sugarcane but not from soil it is still growing because the process is going on of growing .This process is kown as Grafting

As we remove the half of the sugarcane but not from soil it is still growing.
