Answer: The top of a pillar is at an elevation of 60 degrees when seen from the roof of a 20m tall building. If the horizontal distance between the pillar and the building is 10m then the Height of the pillar is 37.22 meters.

Step-by-step explanation:

A Diagram of this question is attached.

Now here

From the given question,

Let's assume that,

BE = Height of the 20 m tall Building.

AD = Height of the pillar.

ED = horizontal distance between the pillar and the building.

∠B = Elevation of the pillar of 60 degrees seen from the roof.

Now here,

From the Diagram

The height of BE is the same as the (20+x ) height of CD because they are opposite to each other therefore

Assume that

AC = x height of the tower,

Therefore,

AD = AC + CD

Height of AD = x + 20

Now,

We know that  ∠B is the opposite of height AC and Adjacent to the distance BC

∠B = 60 °= Tan(60°) = \frac{x}{10}

x = 10 √3

Now Height of the Pillar = x + CD

                                        = 10 √3  + 20

                                        =  37.32 metre.

Hence the total height of the pillar is 37.32 meters.
