The top of a sewing needle is made sharp but the other end is usually blunt, because the top end is used to pierce inside some clothing and also, surface area is inversely proportional to pressure applied, and we want the pressure to be very high so that it can pierce the clothing nicely.
Hope it helps.

Sewing needle is used to sew clothes which can be thick. So the top of the needle is made sharp because to generate more pressure. We know Pressure is thrust per unit area so when the area decreases pressure increases. The needle's tip is made sharp and pointed which means the area of the tip is very less thus it can generate more pressure. That's why it is made sharp so that it can be used to sew thick clothes and stuffs, etc.
