In Triangle ABE,
tan 30 = x/a
=> x = a tan 30
Then,
In triangle CED,
tan 60 = y/a
=> y = a tan 60
Now,
(x/y) = tan 30/tan 60
=> x/y = 1/3
=> x : y = 1 : 3
