Hi,

Draw a rough diagram ,

according to the problem

given ,

|D
I
I IA
I.x y I
I. I
I l
C_______•________B
d. P. d

Join the points D , A to P.

CP = PB = d units

i ) height of the one tower

CD = x units

Angle
In triangle DPC,

Tan 30° = DC / CP

1/√3 = x / d ----( 1 )

ii) Height of the second tower

AB = y units

In triangle APB,

Tan 60° = AB / PB

√3 = y / d ------( 2 )

Find the ratio of ( 1 ) / ( 2 ) ,

(1 / √3)/ (√3 / 1 ) = ( x /d) / ( y / d )

( 1 / √3 )( 1 / √3 ) = x / y

1 / 3 = x / y

Therefore ,

x : y = 1 : 3

I hope this helps you.

:)
