Its not just important, it is essential. A lot of the worlds soil has been badly degraded by industrialised farming and the removal of trace elements. Plus also we lose a lot of topsoil by tilling, which causes the topsoil to be removed by the action of wind and rain. Poor soil = poor quality food and hence bad nutrition.
