The tops of two poles of heights 10 metre and 18 metre are connected with wire. If wire makes an angle of 30 degree with the horizontal then find the length of the wire.

Here, AC is the wire. AB and CD are the poles.

Also,

CE = CD - AB

=> CE = 18m - 10m

=> CE = 8m

Now, from right ∆CEA,

 \frac{CE}{AC} = sin30°

 = > \frac{8}{AC} = \frac{1}{2}

 = > AC = 2 \times 8

 Therefore, AC = 16m

sin30 = 8/length of wire

so, length of wire = 8 x 2 = 16
