solution : let the price of a notebook is x and a ballpen is y.

a/c to question,

price of 4 pcs notebooks + price of 10 pcs ballpens < 300

⇒4x + 10y < 300

given price of each notebook is 12 i.e., x = 12

⇒4 × 12 + 10y < 300

⇒48 + 10y < 300

⇒10y < 252

⇒y < 25.2

so y = 25 [ as 25 is the nearest integral value of 25.2 and also 25 < 25.2 so y = 25 ]

Therefore the maximum cost price of each ballpen is 25
