Let the cost of the chair be Rs. x.

∴ Cost of the Table = 2 × Cost of the Chair

= Rs. 2x

Now, Acc. to the question, Sum of the Cost of table and chair = Rs. 900

∴ x + 2x = 900

⇒ 3x = 900

∴ x = Rs. 300

∴ Cost of 1 Chair is Rs. 300.

Cost of 1 table = 900 - 300 = Rs. 600

Hope it helps.

Acc to the question, the total cost of one chair and one table is ₹ 900.

Let the cost of 1 chair and 1 table be P and Q respectively.

Then, we can write P + Q = ₹ 900.

In the second case it is said that the cost of table is twice the cost of chair. Then Q = 2P.

Now substituting the value of Q in the first equ we get,

P + 2P = ₹ 900.

or, 3P = ₹ 900.

or, P = ₹ (900 ÷ 3) = ₹ 300.

or, P = ₹ 300.

i.e. cost of 1 chair is ₹ 300 and that of 1 table is ₹ 600.
