let the cost of the chair be x and that of table be y

ATQ,
                 x+y = 900 ................................. 1
      also,   y = 2x ....................................... 2

from 1 and 2
                   x + 2 x = 900
                         3 x = 900
                            x = 900/3 = 300

subs x = 300 in 2

                    y = 2 * 300
                       = 600

thus the cost of chair is rs.300
        and the cost of table is rs.600
