Let :

  • Mass of a bottle of syrup = x
  • Mass of a bottle of juice = y

Given :

  • 12y + 11x = 30.9
  • 3x + 3y = 8.1

To find : Mass of bottle of syrup (= x)

Solution :

3x + 3y = 8.1

=> 3(x+y) = 8.1

dividing both side by 3

=> 3(x+y)/3 = 8.1/3

=> x + y = 2.7

=> y = 2.7 - x .......... equation 1

12y + 11x = 30.9

putting value of y from equation 1 , into above equation, we get;

=> 12(2.7 - x) + 11x = 30.9

=> 32.4 - 12x + 11x = 30.9

=> 32.4 - x = 30.9

=> 32.4 - 30.9 = x

=> x = 1.5

ANSWER : Mass of a bottle of syrup( = x) = 1.5kg
