Given, total expenditure of the household per month = Rs y

Cost of rice = Rs 50 per kg

Consumption of rice = X kg per month

So, Total cost of consumed rice = 50 X per month

And, House rent = Rs 500

Thus, linear equation which represents monthly expenditure of household be as,

50X + 500 = y  ......  (1)
