It's valency is 3 since the outermost shell has 5 electrons and it needs 3to complete its shell i.e.8 . So it's valency is 3.

Valency of Nitrogen

⇒ Number of electrons = 7

⇒ Electronic configuration = 2 , 5

⇒ Nearest stable gas = 2 , 8

⇒ Hence nitrogen needs 3 electrons to be stable.

⇒ It needs to gain 3 electrons .

⇒ So the valency would be - 3 because electrons carry a negative charge

Answer :

The valency of nitrogen is - 3

Hope it helps !
