Atomic number of nitrogen is 7.Therefore its electronic configuration is 2,5. Thus valency of nitrogen is 3

Since the atomic number is 7, the electronic configuration be 2,5 because the first shell can accommodate maximum 2 electrons and the second shell can accommodate maximum 8 electrons which is given by 2n^2.

The valence is calculated by subtracting valenecy from 8 if the valenecy is greater than 4. If it's less than 4 valenecy is the valence electron.

Therefore, valence electrons is 8-5=3
