The total number of harmonics audible to a person = 20

The general formula for frequency of pipe opened at one end , frequency = (2n-1)v/4l

n belongs to N.

l = 17 cm = 0.17 m

v = 340 m/s

The audible range of human ear is between 20 Hz and 20000 Hz.

The maximum frequency produced by the closed pipe should be less than 20000 Hz.

(2n-1)v/4l < 20000

=> (2n -1)340/4× 0.17 < 20000

=> (2n -1) < (20000 × 0.17 × 4)/340

=> (2n-1) < 40

=> 2n < 41

=> n < 20.5

The total number of harmonics audible to a person = 20
