then, according to the question :

x+y = 1400 ----(1)
x = y+32
y = x-32 ----(2)
put the value of y from equation (2) in (1)

x+y = 1400
x+(x-32) = 1400
2x = 1432
x = 716

hence the number of boys in the school is 716
