Given : The total profit p (in millions of dollars) earned by a company from 1995 to 2004 can be modeled by p=3500+500t/98-t where t is the number of years since 1995

To find : a model that gives the profit earned per unit per year.

Solution:

Profit  Earned

p = 3500+500t/98 -t

t is the number of years since 1995

number n (in hundreds of thousands) of units sold can be modeled by

n = (t+7)(3000-20t)/490   - 5t

profit earned per unit per year.    =  Total Profit / (Total units * number of year)

10⁶ = milion  100000 = 100 thousand

= p * 10⁶ / 100000nt

= 10p/nt

Year 2002  => t = 2002 - 1995 = 7

p = 3500+500t/98-t = 3500 + 500*7/98  - 7  = 3528.71

n = (t+7)(3000-20t)/490   - 5t  = 14 ( 2860) /490 - 35  = 46.71

profit earned per unit per year.    =   10 * 3528.71 /(46.71) * 7

= 107.9  $
