ANSWER:-

Transcription unit :-

◇ A transcription unit consist of three parts ;

  • Promotor
  • Structural gene
  • Terminator

PROMOTOR :-

◇ Promotor region is in the beginning.

◇ Promotor region provides the sites for attachment of RNA polymerase and transcription factors.

◇ The promoter region is present towards 5’end, though it is 3’end of the template.

◇ All the reference point while defining a

transcription unit is made with coding strand.

STRUCTURAL GENE :-

◇ Structural gene is the area of template strand i.e involved in transcription or formation of RNA.

◇ It is mostly monocistronic in eukaryotes and polycistronic in prokaryotes.

TERMINATOR :-

◇ The terminator region is present downstream towards 3’ end though it is 5’ end of template strand.

◇ It is the site for the attachment of rho factor for the release of RNA polymerase.
