Taking the total mass of compound as 100 .

Since the amount of X in the compound is 76 & Y is 24 (100-76)

Now dividing the mass by given atomic weight to get moles.

X=76/75=1.01

Y=24/16=1.5

Multiplying both the equations by a simple whole no 2

X=2 &Y=3 ,So the formula of the compound should be X2Y3.
