The rivers of India can be classified on the basis of origin and on the type of basin that they form. On the basis of origin : Himalayan Rivers and Peninsular Rivers. The main Himalayan river systems are the Ganga, the Indus and the Brahmaputra river systems. The Himalayan rivers form large basins.
